College Apps, Acceptances, and Tips.

Hey guys! I know this is the one topic that we've all gotten tired of hearing about but I think this is a perfect time to start conversing among ourselves about college. Where are you all applying? Are you all working on your personal essays? Oh and our letters of recommendation, those are important as well. Plus I think we could all help each other out with finding and posting scholarships on here as well :D
I know this hour I'm going up to Mrs. Rodriguez's to look through her coveted binder. I want your feedback! :)

  1. I'm applying for the GMS and Ron Brown scholarships. I've also started my personal essay. My top four schools would be NAU, Fisk,Syracuse, and Xavier. Hope I get in to one :]

  2. I'll be honest, I have no idea how to apply for a scholarship, where to look for one, or which ones to apply for. I only know where I am going. I say it with cirtianty because I know for a fact that I want to go to these colleges. I want to go to EMCC, and from there U of A.
Other than knowing where I want to be, I have no idea how to get there :(

  3. Emyleigh,

Getting into EMCC is a non-issue. You can even apply a week before classes start. But why limit yourself? You should apply to several universities. Based on your SAT scores and/or GPA, some universities will grant you a scholarship on the spot. You may not know which other scholarships or grants (free money!) you qualify for until your parents fill out the FAFSA in January. Then, through your financial aid application, you will find out that you are eligible for other awards.

As far as seeking out scholarships on your own, Mrs. Rodriguez has a list of up-coming deadlines that you should check out. I think your peers are familiar with several websites based on last year's search, too. They should post those here.

What if you find out that you qualify for a scholarship to pay for your tuition at U of A? Would you still want to go to a community college? Why sell yourself short, especially because you are taking challenging courses in a college prep. curriculum!

So, apply to several places before November 1st. Get busy.

  4. Seriously Emily :)
EMCC is NOT for you! Check out websites like Fastweb or Zinch.com to see what kind of scholarships are available to you. Some of them are super easy, and some of them are a little bit harder to get into but, nevertheless, super worth it! I personally prefer Zinch.com because it's so user friendly and when you apply for scholarships you can see how many people ACTUALLY applied. It's pretty cool because there are some scholarships that only like 5 people applied to and that means that it's easier to win! :) Try it and see if you like it. For goodness sakes dude, you're at SOUTH RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL. We are sooo beyond Community College and In-State schools. Venture out! Who knows, you might get into and receive full ride to a school you never thought possible.

  6. I recently applied to NAU and am thinking about applying to Azusa Pacific University in California and maybe UCLA or Cal/Berkeley. I'm still debating though... haha. I have yet to apply for any scholarships :/ however, I am aware of some of the websites, like the ones you mentioned Lesly! In fact, you were the one who showed me Zinch.com! Does anyone know any other websites that are not listed here for scholarships? These deadlines have me a bit stressed out!

  7. For scholarships I literally just googled "scholarships for high school seniors" and numerous ones popped up. The deadline are stressing me as well. I have one coming up on Nov. 1st and I've yet to have my second essay finished. I recently have gotten my letter from University of Nebraska saying that my admission app is being processed so I'm crossing my fingers :]

  8. Im also freaking out about scholarships especially as our time seems to be running out! I heard about, findtuition.com, it seems promising just fill out some info and it tells you what scholarships your eligible for. I haven't tried it out myself yet, so tell me what you think.

  9. I've applied to NAU, U of M, and I'm currently working on my personal statement for Penn State, my dream college :) For U of M or university of Minnesota, I got the "golden gopher" award which sounds funny but it's basically an instate opportunity where you don't have to pay a app fee, no essay, and! you're automatically reviewed for their honors college so it's pretty sweet. Right now I'm just waiting for my SAT scores to come... I'm super nervous! Anyway, I'm sure we'll all be getting acceptance letters soon!
