Summer is just coming around the corner. Some students have around two months of summer; whereas, others has one month or less. This is a post for students for this class to start posting summer reading suggestions. Please place Author and Book Title together.
Hey Jacob,
ReplyDeleteOne thing I have learned while taking the AP English course is that reading is imperative to develope comprhension and well rounded qualities. I also found that I have a liking towards French authors. And for that matter, I'd reccommend Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert, Candide by Voltaire, and Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. All are diverse in their own sense, but out of these Candide is my favorite, making it a must read. A satirical novella, the mockery of that times society proves a great read with a candid yet sometimes comical dialouge. The novella summons numerous controversial topics, all in all allowing for the reader to develope their own opinions about the impossibility of optimism.
Within the two week time frame that I have between graduation and shipping out to the army I plan on reading The Historian (by Elizabeth Kostova) and the De Vinci Code (by Dan Brown). I truly wish that shared the same taste as others (such as Jasmine above) when applied to more of a global aspect, but then again if I did, I might not be able to finish reading.
ReplyDeleteDuring spring break I read Khaled Hosseini's "A Thousand Splendid Suns". If you liked "The Kite Runner" then you will LOVE this other book. If you haven't read "The Alchemist" I definitely recommend it! It's a pretty short and enlighttening. Lastly, I read Vladimir Nabokov's "Lolita" junior year and if you're looking for something "out of the ordinary" that is a great book.
ReplyDeleteMy upcoming Summer will be filled with authors like Ted Dekker, Frank Peretti, Charles Dickens, Beverly Lewis, and a plethora of others.
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend "Immanuel's Vein's" by Ted Dekker and "The Oath" by Frank Peretti.
If you are looking for an interesting take on human nature, read "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde". It's mind blowing haha.
I'm looking forward to delving into new literature this summer >:D
I usually read books only if the movie was really good, especially if they're really old books and hard to understand. One of my favorie movies is "The Count of Monte Cristo" (by Alexandre Dumas). Its a revenge novel and the movie I watched was the old black-and-white style.
ReplyDeleteAnother really good book, an even older read (without a relevant movie DX ) is Dante's: The Inferno... the first part of The Divine Comedy. I read it understanding very little of it, Sparknotes really helps... mainly it was the vocabulary and the wordage that was confusing. Overall it was a dark and somewhat enlightening read. ^-^ Happy summer reading!!
ok so the books im planing on reading are: The Historian like John, i want to go and get The Count of Montecristo, and read the folloeing books that come after Eragon. any one have the books i can borrow? and then theres others that im still debating on. =)
ReplyDeleteLeslie, I read Lolita as well and it most definitely serves as a rare read! :)
ReplyDeleteOne a more casual note, last summer I read The Secret Year by Jennifer Hubbard and found it very enjoyable. Its a love story so beware :)
