How Is Tom Becoming A Dynamic Character?
Since the start of the beginning of the book, we find that Tom is not the nicest of characters. He is rather hot headed and extremely defensive of his past. Along the trip west we find that Tom has been changing bit by bit. In a sense, he has become more mellowed out, especially after spending time at the government camp. There are multiple events that lead up to this point, but I want to know what others think about how Tom has changed from the person he was in the beginning. Would you say that he has become more of a leader, or is he less impulsive and violent than what he used to be?
Be sure to let me know.
I agree with your ideas, Tom has become more of a leader in his family, but this didn't means he is less violent than before. In ch. 6 when Tom , Casy, and Muley are talking about Tom's sentence, Tom said he will do the same thing again if somebody come for him with a knife. I think in next few chapters if someone offend Tom's family or friends, Tom could make some irresponsible decision.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, I think Tom changed from a irresponsible guy to a man who cares about his family and community. He start to caring more about others than himself. In ch. 6, Tom ,Casy, and Muley caught a jack rabbit, while Casy and Muley were sharing their thoughts and stories, Tom seems only care about the rabbit. As the Joad family went on their journey Tom changed as well. In ch. 24 Tom helped the Central Community to find the troublemakers.
Thanks for your input Zhu!
DeleteYou are right in the fact that Tom definitely changed his mindset. He went from caring about just himself to taking responsibility and caring for others. It seems like his journey west changed him in a more beneficial way. Thanks for commenting!
Hello,
ReplyDeleteIn my perspective Tom has changed in many ways. I feel like at the beginning of the book he lost in regards to his life. As he comes to understandings to what is happening to the people he loves he comes to realizations but remains thriving. I believe that the one thing that helped shape Tom in to a different man was the growing responsibility that came as a result of the hardships he went through during this journey.
Feel free to elaborate!
Thanks:)
