Senior Thesis

So, I was wondering who was doing what.

As we all know, during this last block we will working on a 9-week long essay- our senior thesis paper. The paper, though we do not have the format/guidelines yet, will be about a certain literary device/plot/theme/idea that we feel prevails in all the literature we have read- novels, poems, short-stories, memoirs, et cetera.

Have you guys though about it? I think I want to write my thesis on death in literature. Why is it that someone always seems to have to die in order for change to happen? My mind immediately goes to A Light in August, Of Mice and Men, A Tale of Two Cities, Wuthering Heights, Hamlet, Native Son, The Kite Runner, and many, many more.

I'm exicted!

  1. I can't decide on whether or not I want to write about Rebellion in literature, or individuality in literature.

  3. Steven,

I think rebellion ties in to individuality. They are one in the same.

    Esteban,

Good topic. Your thesis will have to be more narrow.

    Jose,

It seems like you already have a pretty narrow focus for your paper.

All students should have a topic by 3/29 and a thesis by 3/30. We are discussing it tomorrow.

These papers should probably be published under a non-fiction section in our anthology!

  4. I am fascinated by byronic hero type men such as Mr. Darcy from pride and prejudice, Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights, Sydney Carton from A Tale of Two Cities, and perhaps Frankenstein the monster from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. As well as Mr.Rochester from Jane Eyre.
Mostly seemingly from the Romantic Era, I am utterly intrigued by this era, the culture and everything it is..I feel as if I was born in the wrong era ): ahaa.
