Chapter 6 Question

I'm sorry guys for posting late i haven't had the chance to post in the past weeks, but I have an important question i would like some feedback on. Do you guys think Muley Grave did the right thing of staying and letting his family leave? Sorry if this wasn't a question from the packet, but I wanted to know someone else's opinion because i believe that he is right for trying to save the land but wrong for leaving his family.

  1. It's an odd situation because us the readers know what the land means to him and understand why he stayed behind, but if were talking about whether it was wrong or right to leave his family, then it was absolutely wrong. He had a duty to take care of his family and he sacrificed them for his self pride. In some situations one has to be realistic and there is no way that he will save the land by himself, so instead of staying behind, he should have prioritized his family. That is just what I think, I would like to see what other people think. Good question Adrian!

  2. Nice response Jeffrey and good question Adrian! I completely agree with you guys about Muley Grave. He had a responsibility and that is to be the head of the family; however, he preferred the land and to me that was upsetting! Family comes first; however, Muley believed that his land was much more important and by his actions, we can see his type of characterization he has. Moreover, him staying would be difficult to save the land since everyone left/is leaving. As we could see in chapter five, the "monster" that destroyed the land is not "human"; consequently, Muley cannot fight back unless he wants to die. Thus, I believe he should starve with his family, then starve by himself. This is my opinion, feel free to subtract or add on! I would like to hear the opinions of others! :)

  3. I completely agree with everyone's opinions! I believe it is wrong for Muley to both, stay in the land and leave his family. Since everyone is leaving the state, he is not going to find a lot of food and his socializing skills will go down because not many people will be there with him. Also, his family might need him during their trip to California because they could need some help getting some money.
