Govinda

Now that we've read more into the novel, in the chapter entitled "Gotama" Siddartha decides to leave his friend Govinda behind since he has joined the Buddha. When i read that part i felt sympathy for Govinda because he really wanted to go on the spiritual journey with Siddartha. What do you guys think was the motive of Govinda following Siddartha up until this point in their journey? Do you guys have any thoughts about Goivnda..?

  1. Govinda doesn't possess the same desires as Siddartha. Go inca, in my opinion, just wants to be there for Siddartha. He is his best friend

  2. Siddartha makes a comment during Govinda's departure that he had wondered if Govinda would ever forge his own path, and it sounds as if Siddartha is happy about Govinda finally doing things on his own accord rather than being Siddartha's shadow. However, I'm secretly hoping that Govinda shows up again at some point for a joyful reunion.

  3. Siddartha also becomes very detached with the evidence of how he stares down at family's and lovers. Maybe govinda realizes that siddarthas journey must be taken alone.

  4. I like Govinda, but I feel for too long he was always thinking about Siddhartha and not living for himself. He always stuck by Siddhartha's side because he wanted him to find happiness and satisfaction but he realized that He wanted to reach satisfaction and he was not going to get that by dragging himself along with Siddhartha. I believe Govinda did the right thing for himself by staying with the Buddha because that is what he wanted for once and he finally took his opportunity.
