The Meaning of Words

Did Hamlet in fact look for revenge or was in a quest for retributive justice? Revenge seems to imply anger, which i understand Hamlet did characterize. However, at which point did Hamlet's moralites alter? Was it for his deceased father's sake or did the presence of his disloyal mother with his murderous uncle flip the switch within Hamlet?

  1. His mother being disloyal to him and his father would have to be the spark of his morals altering. Hamlet, in the beginning, tries to undergo the checks and balances in his life starting off in the right. But as time progressed and his uncle becomes more dastardly he feels that the only right is to correct his uncle's wrong which ultimately ended up wrong itself. "Thus bad begins, and worse remains behind"

  2. I do not understand what pointof view you are speaking from. I am just looking at this situation from Hamlet's point of view. He feels backstabbed by his mother, distusting of his uncle and that combined with his infimities as a young person, his ethics are susceptible to influence. However, what I am asking is, would you feel that if the murderer of your father, assuming you know who he is, is exempt from"justice"-more so clandestine of his actions taken to get where he is-would you take it to be, if you were to go after him to pay for his misdoings, as revenge or retributive justice.
