Chanel do you remember Van Gogh from art history? Genius's are wonderfully insane. They are able to comprehend the world at a different level and as a result, can challenge the status quo. In my eyes, Hamlet is an intellectual. By embracing pieces of humanism, he is able to question the world around him. He is insane because has strange impulses like his hatred towards women. His mind is taking his hate to other women. His intellect and madness shows that he is a complex character that posses human qualities. He's not a perfect spit out card board copy of a hero. He's a main character that one can relate to.
Hamlet is am intellectual however has traits of an intellectual. He questions his surroundings, he is a scholar and well-read. He cannot be insane if he is thoughtful. Of course their is always a hint of insanity but I believe that we can all relate to that, one way or another.
Elexus, you say Hamlet is mad, yet embraces humanism and he is a complex charater that we can all relate to, right? Then, couldn't we just say that he his a human being? We are all complex characters; we go through madness, sadness, inquisition, uneasy moments, but we are human.n So, I think that Hamlet is just normal. Btw, I like the comparison to Van Goghm except Hamlet isn't crazy. Jose, What are you saying?
Well Hamlet is definitely an intriguing human being. However I’m still stuck over Hamlet’s madness…is it just acting? How can the guards see the ghost and his mother not? Like in Gertrude’s bedroom, was he pretending to see that ghost or did he actually see it?
I think, yeah he saw the ghost. But the ghost can just be a representation of his conscience tryin g to sort out the situation. His mother was in denial about her wrong-doing, which is why she couldn't see it. The guards saw it because they are indifferent.
