Those Meddling Witches
The Witches in Macbeth are incredible troublesome for reaveling Macbeth's prophecy. Do you beleive that the Witches predictions came true because of them telling Macbeth his fate? Fate doesn't sound very humanistic to me. Is Hamlet more humanistic than Macbeth or is it the other way around?

I don't know why the Witches foretold macbeth of his future but you have to admit that they are pretty involving. Shakespeare introduced the Witches to create drama in the play as it is a tragedy. As to Macbeth's Humanistic qualities, his taking control of the situation does enforce Humanism due to the fact that he is incomplacent with just "letting it be." He is wary of his future and does not settle. Not one of these characters can be said to have a tad more Humanistic qualities than the other. For to be Humanistic is to find conflict in one's personal life therefore it cannot be said as to how troublesome things are to either character.
ReplyDeleteJose is correct when he said that he humanism appeared when Macbeth decided to take the future inot his own hands; it just shows what can happen when one becomes arrogant of himself and forgets the root MAN. Man cannot do all, nor has he come this far alone. It took many before Macbeth to become great Heros of war and Kings, and for him to believe that he was better than man was a departure from humanism, which is why he failed.
ReplyDeleteHamlet, on the other hand, searched for the truth. But, he also fell into a trap when he believed that he was better that Claudius, Gertrude, Rozencratz, Guildenstern, and Polonius. Humanism is the appreciation of all men, and he fell short of that.
