Lady Macbeth
Hey guys, so while reading macbeth in class, I've been very intrigued with Lady Macbeth. I love how she's so conniving and manipulative. I love how Shakespeare made Macbeth weaker than Lady Macbeth instead of the other way around. It's a nice twist. What do you guys think about Lady Macbeth? Do you love or hate her? How do you think she became so power hungry?

I do not love or hate Lady Macbeth thus far. I think everyone is ambitious in one way or another, and Lady Macbeth is very extroverted and out there about hers. I don't think she accepts herself and who she is (which is reasonable, i think, because she had literally no power considering the time period) and so she has to make up for that by portraying herself a certain way in order to get what she wants (social status aka power).
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I actually feel about Lady Macbeth. I mean she is strong and manipulating but she also a bit devious. I believe she became power hungry the moment she started to receive so much from being the wife of a thane.
ReplyDeleteI adore Lady Macbeth. Macbeth being weaker than Lady Macbeth was a surprising twist, but it was a pleasant twist. It was actually nice to see a lady play this role, instead of a man.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lupe. I think if we were to be in that situation, we might also be in the same page as her. Although we do not have any information on Lady Macbeth's youth, i questions as the what social class she might have grown up in? I wonder if she was in the lower class, if that led to her greed to have the power she might have not had in her childhood? What do you guys think?
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. I also feel that she may have grew up poor which makes her desire for wealth and power so strong, especially since she is a woman during this time period
DeleteI think she's a very confusing character, in the Scarlet Letter, you could see Hester Prynnes character more easily. You could see she's a great mother and person even though she committed a sin, but with Lady Macbeth she's different, but what if being a mother changes a person we do not know that because we don't have kids but neither does Lady Macbeth maybe i'm off topic but I think kids make a difference in people lives.
