Brave New World chapter 8

I do not know about everyone else but I felt as if today when reading Brave New World there were plenty of interesting things going on especially the part when John feels alone and diverse to the point he fantasizes himself going through the crucifying of Christ

  1. I also found this chapter interesting because the characters are showing emotion and that they are still struggling with emotions even though the new world they live in does not put an emphasis on emotions. The characters are each fighting their own struggle...

  3. Personally, I think John is a bit exaggerated, but I think it's on purpose. He is extremely over-emotional and with the religious References, it seems to contrast directly with life in London. I think Huxley uses John to emphasize the contrast between the two societies and that's why he focuses so much on John's development.

    1. I agree; John may be such an exaggerated character to further emphasize the dissonance between Malpais and London.

  4. @KaylynWilke, I see and like where you are coming from, from the religious aspect. I however wouldn't necessarily say that he is religiously exaggerated, though he does at times go a bit far. Being himself an outcast he has to pave his own spiritual journey, like we all do. I think he embodies that truth

  5. I think it was interesting to see the two outcast of the books sort of compliment each other.

  6. I would agree with all of you. John is quite unique with his sense of over exaggerating with his emotions

  7. I believe it was interesting and to an extent a bit confusing but I'm sure as time passes, the plot develops, and its put more into context this new information will all make sense.
