Trouble In Paradise?

In Chapter 6 we follow Bernard and Lenina as they go on their first date. However, it is evident that Lenina does not share the same values as Bernard and causes an argument that ends with her emotional breakdown. However, that flood of emotion shows that she is beginning to find holes in her previously imposed outlook on life. Do you feel that with time, Bernard will be able to fully open her eyes to the reality of their situation? Will they ever be able to really be a couple? Or do you feel that Lenina will cower back to the lifestyle she already knows despite having found faults in it.

  1. I think Bernard will help Lenina come out of her shell of conformity and her life of ignorance and instant gratification. Maybe, he'll convince her to think for herself. I see Lenina having potential considering she showed signs of being capable of forming emotional attachments from Henry Ford, which wasn't in the norm.

  2. I feel that Lenina will change and its due to Bernard's influence on her.

  3. I think that Bernard will be able to open her eyes to the reality of their situation but it will all be up to Lenina to process the information in her mind and on how she reflects to these confessions will depend her future with Bernard and which lifestyle she she chooses to live by.

  4. I honestly think Lenina will not change because she wants to believe her world is perfect although she knows deep down that it's wrong the way she's living. The drugs and everything else will overpower her.

  5. For the most part I'm really hoping that Lenina will changer her ways and open herself to this new reality, but as of right now I have to agree with Michaela and say that Lenina is going to continue to use drugs and other temporary pleasures to hide herself from it. I still have a little ray of hope though, that eventually she'll snap out of it and realize the emptiness within herself and actively try to fix it.
