My favorite sonnet would have to be Sonnet 18. Although he makes false conparisons it is still found so romantic in my perspective . My favorite lines are the 1-2 "shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate." Although one can see the difference between sonnet 18 and sonnet 130 where sonnet 130 is more reasonable where he knows her eyes Dont shine like the sun but he still loves her . For me Sonnet 18 will be my favorite even if it's not so reasonable . What's your guys opinion between the two sonnets ? Which one would you prefer?

Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130 take two completely different approaches on the topic of love. I personally prefer Sonnet 130 because like you said it's more reasonable/ relatable. He's just keeping it real, but if you are more of a romantic I can see why you would prefer Sonnet 18 instead.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on this one, Jasmine. Sonnet 18 was my favorite as well!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Clarissa! I love Sonnet 130 for its realism, and the fact that he still loves her regardless of her imperfections!

ReplyDeleteI prefer 130, because 18 seems so unrealistic. Maybe it's just me, I don't know. I just don't think a mortals beauty can compare to that of a seasons. Whereas, in sonnet 130 he is pointing out her qualities and saying that she isn't perfect but even so she is beautiful and he loves her! He doesn't have to falsely compare her to things like snow or the sun or even corral.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest i like both poems equally! I find it kind of ironic that in the first poem he says that she is more beautiful than summer but in reality you cant be more beautiful than summer in my eyes. Then in the other sonnet he refers to how real his love is for her. Could he be doing this for a specific reason?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Daycy and Clarissa . Both poems approach love differently which makes them both unique. Since both poems are talking about her beauty but differently in a realistic and romantic way. I'd say I found the realistic to be better because of its approach about talking about the women he loves.
