Transcendentalism

Hello!

Today in class we disscused and read about transcendentalism. What did you guys obtain from this discussion? What were some of your favorite parts?

My favorite quote obtained from the discussion was: things do not change, we change!

I just found this quote extremely relatable when it comes to my life. I start to notice things that changed drastically throughout the years in my life, especially in highschool, but then this quote opened my eyes: all this time it was not the "things" that actually changed, it was us.

I just thought I'd share this, have a good night guys!

  1. I really admire the idea that you think and doing thing that don't conform to society norms. I love how transcendentalism focuses on the individual rather than the general whole. As we read in class I began questioning the reasons I do certain things and if I do them for myself or is it what society tells me to do.

  2. I also began questioning some of the things I do! I know I tend to be very materialistic and discussing the ideas of transcendentalism opened my mind to new ways of life and I hope to take those ideas into consideration and break away from society's standards and encourage others to express their individuality.

  3. Well, after discussing about transcendentalism, I began to wonder about what things I liked that were and were not influenced by others. I also thought about what would happen if I spent a whole week as the only person on Earth similarly with that one Spongebob episode. Transcendentalism is a very interesting topic and from what I know, society is made up of individuals, so every individual is important no matter how awful they can be.

  4. Something I found captivating from our class discussion on transcendentalism was that, living from the inside out can lead one to discovering their true selves. I like this quote a lot and I find it meaningful because when a person knows and understand who they are inside they will tend to be more true to themselves, whereas if a person is living based on the influences of the society they will forever be blind of who they truly are. With that being said, a person that live their life based on how society wants them to will never at the end of the day find true happiness and will never get to find their own personal paths or purpose in life.

  5. I agree with you Armando, and I really liked discussing this particular subject because it really proves to us how vulnerable we become to society, and it is honestly devastating.

  7. I really like the quote you used, I personally feel like it's a fact that things don't change but we as individuals do. The concept of Transcendentalism is such a powerful tool that we learn in school, it's something we can take with us as we grow and prospers as adults.

  8. While your quote is good, I personally enjoyed the whole "society is in a conspiracy against individualism" quote. Not only was it an insightful view on transcendentalism, but it gave me a more general understanding of how transcendentalists view the world around them.

  9. I completely agree as life goes on you see your world change slightly, while we are always changing as people. I can relate to the quote, because I am a different person from freshman year due to the things I had to deal with and how different people came in my life and affected me.
